In many older homes, the kitchen tells a story—of meals shared, time passed, and surfaces worn with age. For this project, the kitchen had solid bones but outdated tile that no longer matched the homeowner’s vision. Completely removing and replacing the existing tile would have required extensive demolition, time, and budget. Instead, we chose a smarter and more efficient approach.

Rather than tearing out the old tile, we opted for a thin-set overlay method, applying a smooth, cementitious skim coat directly over the existing tile. This technique, often referred to as a ceramic-cement overlay system, is ideal when you want a clean, modern finish without the mess and cost of full tile removal.

Once the surface was prepped and leveled, we primed and coated it with high-durability white paint specifically designed for kitchen environments. The result? A bright, elegant transformation that looks entirely new—without the disruption of a major renovation.
